There is a story in Luke 15 about a father and a son. The son takes his inheritance early, burns through all of it, and ends up feeding pigs in a foreign country wondering where everything went. That part gets a lot of attention. But the more interesting character is the father.
The father sees his son coming from a long way off. And he runs.
Not walks. Runs.
He throws a party that makes no economic sense. Kills the best calf. Puts a ring on his finger. The older brother, who stayed home and did everything right, is furious. And the father’s answer to him is one of the stranger lines in all of scripture. We had to celebrate. We had to.
I started a marketing agency because I wanted to be that father. Yes, the son was prodigal, reckless and extravagant and wasteful, but the father too was prodigal with his kindness and forgiveness.
I wanted to build something that gave more than it had to. That looked at the bottom line the way the father looked at the calf, as something that existed to be given away.
